Essential Vitamins and Their Sources Required for Controlling Blood Clots

Blood clotting is the process by which, the loss of blood due to a cut or damage to blood vessels is stopped stopped with a complex process of coagulation where the blood forms clots. Blood clots are dangerous, if clotting of blood occurs in healthy blood vessels. Vitamin K plays a key role in development of blood clots or coagulation. Lack of vitamin K prevents the formation of blood clots and may lead to excessive bleeding. Vitamin K must be included in our diet and it has the ability to help blood clots. Food sources rich in vitamin K include leafy green vegetables such as spinach, kale, broccoli, cabbage, parsley, butter and cheese.

Vitamin B12, B6 and folic acid reduce the levels of homocysteine, an amino acid that is produced from protein breakdown. Excessive supplements of Vitamin B12 may increase the risk of clot formation in blood vessels. Genetics and medical conditions may play a vital role in the formation of blood clots.

Blood clotting helps prevent bleeding of blood when there is any cut on the skin. Continuous bleeding of blood without any control may cause serious life - threatening conditions. Therefore it is essential to take Vitamin K on a regular basis.
