Harmful Effects of Illicit Drugs on Skin

Use of illicit drug may cause unappealing, sore, infected skin, along with causing life threatening diseases. Blisters and sores appears on the face, neck, trunk of the person who is abusing the illicit drugs.

  • Use of the illicit drugs like methamphetamine, crack, cocaine and other can cause skin sores or blisters on the face, neck, trunk or other external body parts of the drug abusers .
  • Drug abusers generally have poor hygiene and a poor diet, which can cause skin irritation and it also reduces the healing capacity of the skin.
  • Abusers of illicit drugs suffer from frequent rashes, dry mouth and itchy skin.
  • If these drugs were injected in to the body through the needles, the addicts may suffer from infected track marks.
  • Methamphetamine users may experience an itching sensation and they need to scratch their skin, creating sores that do not heal easily.
  • Abusers of illicit drugs may have poor hygiene when they are under the influence of the drug.
  • The combination of poor diet and poor hygiene which is common in the drug addicts may create oily skin that may experience frequent breakouts.
  • When the drug user scratches the pimples and blackheads that form on the skin, then the skin becomes infected and pocked.
  • Users who inject drugs into their veins with the help of infected needles may suffer from the illnesses or may develop irritations.

Along with these skin diseases, the users of illicit drugs are in the danger of developing HIV AIDS, hepatitis, kidney disease, liver disease, tuberculosis, as well as skin necrosis antibacterial resistant staph infections, tetanus, botulism,and tumors.
