Early Symptoms of Drug Addiction Among Teens

In healthy adolescents because of their age there will be rapid physical and emotional changes as well as increased demands for independence and privacy. It is very difficult for the parents of the adolescents to recognize whether their children are abusing drugs or not. However there are certain early symptoms of drug dependance that exists in the teens who are abusing drugs.

General Symptoms:
General symptoms are similar in all types of drug abused and these symptoms include friendship with the new persons, new style and change in the dressing pattern by the teens and disappearance of money or other valuable items from the home, etc.

Dress:
If a teen is abusing the drugs, there will be sudden changes in clothing style or trends of the teens. Teens who are abusing drugs wear long sleeves, otherwise wear clothing that is inappropriate for the season or occasion to conceal the truth that they are abusing the drugs.

Symptoms of depressant drugs:
Symptoms that are caused in the teens because of the use of the central nervous depressant drug use includes slurred speech, decreased and impaired motor coordination, unnatural calmness, slow movement, confusion, blackouts and memory loss etc.

Symptoms of stimulant drugs:
Constant nasal drippings, excessive coughing and chronic bronchitis are the physical symptoms caused by the use of the stimulant drugs in the teens. Behavioral symptoms of the use of stimulant drugs includes periods of extreme high energy, requiring little or no sleep, followed by periods of low energy during which a teen sleeps for long period of time. Hyper sexual activity is also common by using the stimulants and a teen may experience severe depression, sometimes leading to suicidal thoughts.

These are symptoms of drug abuse in early stages among teens.
