When teenagers reach the age of driving, parents are often in dilemma whether to buy a car for them or not. Finally when they decide to buy a car, taking decision for which car to buy, which one will be the safest one etc. can be difficult for them. Choosing a safe vehicle is more than anything that parents can do for protecting their teens. This article contains some tips for parents to choose a car for their teenager.

Following are some points to be remembered when choosing a car for your teen:
  • Do not choose an unstable vehicle: Sporty vehicles, especially smaller ones should be avoided, as these vehicles encourage young teenagers to speed up and test their performance. These cars are more prone to accidents, as during speed there is a possibility of car getting skid or spin out.
  • Remember not to pick a small vehicle: Vehicles that are small offers less protection than a medium or larger one in case of accidents or crashes. This does not mean that you should buy a large vehicle for your teenager. Many mid-size cars are available that offers good protection from crash. Make sure that you check out for the safety ratings for the car you are willing to buy.
  • Avoid older vehicles: Nowadays car are designed better for crash protection than the cars few years ago. For instance, a new and the latest model with airbags car will be a better choice than the older one without airbags. Before making a final choice for buying a car, it is good idea for consulting department of transportation or The Institute for Highway Safety.
  • Look for safety features: Teens are more likely to have crashes when compared to older drivers. So, it is important to look for the advanced safety features which helps your teenager to drive safely like Antilock Brake System (ABS) which help in preventing vehicle's wheel from locking during sudden brakes by which driver can maintain steering control and Electronic Stability Control which helps driver to maintain control of the car during extreme steering maneuvers, traction control which improves vehicle's stability by limiting the tire slip on slippery surfaces.
  • Choose an automatic transmission car: Many people think that their teenagers should know both the types, but automatic transmission car will be much better for the new drivers as they do not need to take off their hands from the steering to shift gears. Moreover, there are no hassles of clutch that will confuse your teenager.
  • Do take a test drive: One of the ways for determining whether the car you are choosing is best for your teenager or not is to test-drive it. This will give you a good idea about the car's comforts, its speed and maneuverability, which will be right for your teen.

Common Dental Problems

Many people suffer from common dental problems. This does not mean having tooth pain or tooth decay, but there might be more than that. You need to be aware of such problems. These problems arise due to negligence in oral hygiene. In this article, we will discuss various dental problems people commonly have.

Six common dental problems
There are various common dental problem which many people are suffering from:

1) Bad breath

Bad breath (halitosis) is a common dental problem which can be very embarrassing. This occurs because when left over tiny food particles are not removed by proper brushing and flossing. But keep a check on it that, if bad breath is consistent, it can be a sign of gum disease or other dental problem. Studies show that about 85 percent of people who suffers from bad breath has bad oral condition. Other dental problems that cause bad breath are cavities, dry mouth, bacteria on the tongue and even oral cancer. It is better to see dentist for ruling out any of these dental problems.

2) Tooth decay
Tooth decay which are also called as cavities is one of the most common dental problem in many people. This occurs when there are left over tiny food particles in the mouth and the bacteria in the mouth reacts with it forming acid. This acid attacks your tooth. Tooth decay is slow process that gradually dissolves the layers of the tooth. Brushing and flossing regularly can help prevent tooth decay.

3) Gum disease

An infection in the gums that ranges from minor (gingivitis) to more severe (periodontitis), which can even lead to tooth loss. This can be avoided by visiting dentist every six months along with oral hygiene practices like brushing and flossing regularly.

4) Erosion of tooth enamel
It can be explained as loss of structure of the tooth (a shiny and hardened layer of the tooth) that is often caused by acid in soda and citrus drinks. Signs of tooth enamel erosion can range from sensitivity of tooth to more serious dental problems. It can be easily prevented by keeping a check on the diet and following good oral hygiene practices.

5) Sensitivity of tooth or teeth
Tooth sensitivity, a common problem affects many people. Tooth sensitivity means discomfort or some pain felt when eating or drinking hot, cold, sweet or sour food and drinks. Some people whose teeth becomes sensitive can experience pain and discomfort even when brushing and flossing the teeth.

6) Mouth sores
There are many types of mouth sores. But unless a mouth sore lasts for more than two weeks, there is nothing to worry about. Common mouth sores are ulcers, canker sores, fever blisters, etc.

Unless you visit the dentist, you may not be aware of dental problem, if any, you have. To confirm, it is important to check with the dentist every six months, and get it treated before it is too late.
