The ease of availability and low cost made smoking tobacco popular among youngsters. Even though many laws are made which made it illegal for the children to use tobacco, the fact is that they are hard to implement since the children never do it publicly since they are aware that it is an offense.
After considering the fact that many children are using tobacco and its use has been increasing rapidly, many states are trying to implement strict laws to prevent this situation, as the effects of tobacco and other illicit drugs are even worse on children.

Voluntary Conversation With Adults Reduces Marijuana Use in Teens
Illicit drug abuse has become a serious problem to be tackled in the United States. Along with adults, illegal drugs, especially marijuana, have been used by teens more frequently. Some of the teens are not even aware of the harmful effects of marijuana and continue to use it without quitting. A study was conducted by the researchers of the University of Washington. It was funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). This study revealed that a voluntary conversation with adults reduces the use of marijuana in teens.

Long-term Health Effects of Alcohol in Women
Though alcoholism has been considered dangerous, it is found to affect women more quickly than men. This means that when a man and a woman take the same amount of alcohol, woman faces the effects quicker and is also intoxicated longer than men. Alcohol generally dissolves in water. However, women body contains more fatty tissue than men and hence, alcohol gets retained in a woman's body for a longer time. So, serious long-term health effects are seen in alcoholic women.

Likewise, there are even some protective factors which are considered to reduce the substance abuse among teens. Protective factors are those conditions which prevent or modify risk factors. They help in improving the circumstances in the lives of adolescents and hence, reduce the chances of substance abuse.
