Strict Tobacco Laws Due to Rise of Young Smokers

The ease of availability and low cost made smoking tobacco popular among youngsters. Even though many laws are made which made it illegal for the children to use tobacco, the fact is that they are hard to implement since the children never do it publicly since they are aware that it is an offense.

After considering the fact that many children are using tobacco and its use has been increasing rapidly, many states are trying to implement strict laws to prevent this situation, as the effects of tobacco and other illicit drugs are even worse on children.

The public health ministry of Thailand, plans to strengthen two anti smoking laws in order to control the situation. They are trying to amend the 1992 Tobacco Control Act and 1992 Non Smokers Health Protection Act in a bid to catch with modern forms of tobacco trade, marketing and advertising.

They suddenly decided to implement these laws in an effort to comply with the World Health Organization Framework Convention on tobacco control. According to an estimate, 10.9 million smokers are present in Thailand and the government is more concerned about the smokers between the age group of 15-18. They also found that around 140,000 smokers have started the habit between 2007-2009.

In 200, one in every 8.6 Thais died due to smoking related disorders. Moreover, out of 415,900 Thais who died in 2009, 48,244 were killed for tobacco abuse, which include lung cancer, esophageal cancer, other related cancers, emphysema and strokes.

This is a nice step and it will be very useful if every state government tries to implement these things.
