Ancient Olympics: Its Evolution and the End

Ancient Greeks used to celebrate Olympics as a resemblance of win of Zeus over Titan Cronus.

What ever may be the reason, but the ancient Olympics were celebrated very grandly than any of the events on earth at that time. As they were played to please Gods, they had every thing that a traditional ritual should have. This is what made the ancient Olympics the great celebrations of Greece.

Even those Olympics in ancient times had four year intervals, as we have now. The ancient Olympics were not held with as many games as we have today. The only game in the competition was a race of 190 meters. It was called as the Stadion race, the reason why we named our play grounds as stadiums.

More and more games were added accordingly, afterwards. They included boxing, wrestling, pankration, chariot racing, long jump, disc throw, etc. Almost all of them were involved with fighting or running; the true talents that a soldier must possess in a war.

Then Romans started to take over the Greece, and slowly Olympics lost their significance. And finally, they were abolished for 1500 years by a Christian Emperor named Theodosius.

Iran Announces Missile Tests Officially

After invasion on Iraq, US is on high alert with Iran. Though it is not proved that Iran is possessing nuclear weapons, missile tests pose a major security threat to other countries, and mostly with Israel.

Iran recently announced its test-fire of surface to surface missile. The range of this missile is said to be about 1200 miles, and thus it could easily target up to south-eastern Europe.

And Israel has said that they are very concerned about is, as even its territory comes under the range of test fired missile.

Meanwhile, US is also concerned about the Iranian missile tests and said it violates the UN resolutions. I think that it is concerned because of the acquisition of such high-tech missiles by a country like Iran will pose a threat to its superiority, in case of some war in future against Iran or some other countries which Iran may support.

Execution of Bali Bombers in Indonesia

The deadliest terrorist attack in the history of Indonesia occurred in 2002 in one of its Island called Bali. Indonesia at last executed the responsible terrorists for this who claimed lives of more than 200 people.

It was in 12 Oct 2002 when this worst attack took place. This attack claimed lives of 202 people. Most of the deceased were foreign nationals. Around 164 foreigners died in this attack. Also there were 209 people injured.

The responsible for this attack were three people of Jemaah Islamiyah group. These three militants were executed by Indonesian Government.

However many people turned out to welcome these bodies, calling them Martyrs. They were the responsible for the death of so many innocent people and still they are called as Martyrs. It is this blind encouragement from people that enhances these terrorists to do all sorts of bloody acts.

As the response from the supporters of these three terrorists Indonesia fears risk of revenge attacks. Though the supporters are limited to a minority of 235 million citizens of Indonesia, there are high possibilities of someone turning out to embark revenge attacks.

What Made Lehman Brothers To Go Bankrupt?

Lehman brothers’ was the largest bankruptcy in the history of US. Nobody expected that something like this would happen even to the bigger companies. It was a global company offering financial services to very bigger companies.

It was in 1850 that this firm started as a dry-goods store in Alabama. Two brothers, Emanuel and Mayer Lehman, expanded their business step by step, and their family members took it generation after generation to the state what it was prior to bankruptcy, the fourth largest investment bank in US.

Its significant destruction started in 2007 when it closed its BNC Mortgage, deploying 1,200 employees in 23 locations. It was subprime mortgage crisis in 2008 that made Lehman loss significantly as it held on larger positions of subprime. Then the year started as a bad luck to the company in the form of lower-rated mortgage-backed securities. On September, bank was making talks with Bank of America and Barclays to sell its company, to which both of them declined. It was on 2008, September 15th when its share plummeted more than 95%. And situations for Lehman declined day by day and finally on September 20, it was declared bankrupt.

There Are More Volcanoes On Earth

Only a person living near volcanoes knows how dreadful and dangerous the volcanoes are. History says that there are many disasters related to volcanic eruptions. The thing that makes volcanoes more dreadful is that it is a little complicated thing to predict on when a volcano erupts. The earliest recorded disaster was in 76AD when a volcano named Mount Vesuvius buried a city in Italy with its thousands of people; around 75 feet beneath the ash. There are lot more disastrous incidents, related to volcanoes. The island of Krakatoa, has almost disappeared into the sea in 1883 because of the giant 130 feet tsunami wiped it off along all the nearby villages, after a heavy volcanic eruption. Around 100,000 people lost their lives with this incident. Every continent has some volcanoes, no matter whether they are inactive or active.

Recently, researches discovered over thousand more of these volcanoes under seas with the help of satellites. At present we have as many as 201,055 volcanoes in oceans and seas.
