Tips to Limit Infections While Using Contact Lenses

Contact lenses, whether we are using them for fun or we really need them, proper care is required to maintain them in order to have healthy vision and to prevent infections caused due to improper use. Many people have a wrong opinion that wearing disposable lenses will not affect the sight and would not cause any infections. But it is completely wrong, improper use of any kind of lens may lead to infections and sometimes severe disorders. To avoid such situations here are few tips to limit or to completely eliminate the infections.

  • Never buy the lenses without proper prescription. Whether they are for your vision corrections or for fun wearing. You definitely need a prescription in order to get the correct base size of your eye so that the lens will fit exactly to your eye.
  • Whether they are for permanent use or temporary use you need to know completely about them and the different methods involved in wearing, removing, cleaning and storing of your lenses. You can get enough information either by reading the instructions from the outer box of your lenses or from your doctor.
  • Always wash and clean your hands before handling the lenses. Whether it is before applying or before removing you need to clean your hands with warm water and mild solutions so that the chemicals of the soap or lotions will not affect the lens.
  • Never wear your lenses while sleeping, that is, it is must to remove the lenses before going to bed. Unless you have the extended wear which can be worn even while sleeping you have to remove the remaining types.
  • Use multipurpose solutions to sterilize your lenses and never think that saline solutions are enough. Saline solutions will only clean the lenses but not remove any bacteria, fungi which cause infections to the eyes. So, it is essential to use good branded multipurpose solution to make the lens disinfected.
  • Don't leave your lenses in unsterilized conditions or locations, though they are in the protective storage case. In case, if your lens fell down while wearing or removing, sterilize it once again and make sure that it is free from damage before re using it.
  • Don’t use disposables for more than the prescribed time and throw them off once you remove them. Also avoid wearing lenses while swimming either in pools or in beaches to avoid the sand to enter your eyes and damage the lenses.
  • Never share your lenses with others as it is very easy for an infection to spread from their eyes to yours within no time. Also avoid them while having infections and don’t re use them until your infection is completely cured.

By following the above tips you can limit the infections while using contact lenses.
