Effects of Marijuana on the Fertility

Marijuana is the most commonly abused drug in America. It contains delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Signs and symptoms of the marijuana addiction are feeling sleepy, lack of concentration, inflammation in eyes, cravings for sweat and increased appetite.

Marijuana effects on the fertility in the following ways:

Hormonal Change:
One of the most frequent claims made by marijuana advocates is that the use of the drug causes opposite gender characteristics in the users. Marijuana results in feminine characteristics in men and masculine characteristics in women.

Reduces Sperm Count:
This is the other effect of marijuana on the fertility and many studies have shown that use of marijuana causes decrease in the sperm count in the males. But this effect is temporary and this problem is same in alcohol abusers.

Bonding Issues:
Some studies have shown that excess use of marijuana can effect the rate of the fertility in the humans which inhibits the pregnancy.

Eager Sperm:
According to the study of University of Buffalo, sperm of marijuana users may activate immediately, burning out before reaching the fallopian tube. Till the liver metabolizes marijuana's tetrahydrocannabinol, effect will be there on the efficiency of the sperm.

Marijuana shows its effect on the fertility if it is used once in a day or more and the heavy use of marijuana causes weaker sperm, lower sperm count and an overall drop in efficacy.
