Factors to take in Consider for Translation

Translation is not just a simple word for word replacement between any two languages. It can not be termed as just mechanical process in which each word is translated to the target language. There are many factors to be considered to get the accurate output in the target language. Few factors are as:
  • Actual meaning
  • The fundamentals of grammar of the two languages
  • The spellings in the two languages
  • Their writing style
  • Context of idioms and phrases
  • The use of points and commas to split decimals and thousands within numbers. This should be noticed that some languages support reverse style. For instance, in English (only United States) we write 1,000.01, but the same is written as 1.000,01 in Spanish language.
  • Text translation also refers to translation of right-to left alphabets (like Arabic and Hebrew).
  • Apart from above factors, activities which are required to be performed for translated final document are:
  • The document should be read.
  • The document should be translated.
  • Then the document should be edited.
  • After this, the document is proofread.
  • At times, research is also carried out for translation.
  • Complete knowledge about the native language is necessary by the translator.
Translation needs a complete awareness of the customs and lifestyle of a group of people in order to translate in a manner which communicates with that culture's world view.
