Categories Of Translations

Due to the continuous progress of the translation industry there are some specific terms used to define specialist translations which do not come under a general category. Some common translation terms used are:

  • Administrative translation: Administrative translation is associated with common texts used inside businesses and organizations which are used in day to day management.
  • Commercial translation: Commercial translation also known as business translation encloses any sort of document which is used in the business world like correspondence, company accounts, tender documents, reports, etc.
  • Computer translation: Computer translation refers to the translation of any element to do with computers like software, manuals, help files, etc.
  • Economic translation: Economic translation is same as commercial translation and it is just a more specific term utilized for the translation of documents associated with the field of economics.
  • Financial translation: Financial translation refers to the translation of documents which are financial in nature and it covers banking to asset management to stocks and bonds.
  • General translation: A general text refers to a language not used for high level. There is no particular or technical terminology used. Most translations that are done come under this category.
  • Legal translation: This translation refers to the translation of legal documents like statutes, contracts and treaties.
  • Literary translation: A literary translation refers to the translation of literature like novels, poems, plays and poems.
  • Medical translation: A medical translation will include anything from the medical field from the packing of medicine to manuals for medical apparatus to medical books.
  • Technical translation: It generally refers to particular fields like IT or manufacturing and deals with texts like manuals and instructions.
