Know Helpful Aids to Improve Oral Hygiene

Oral hygiene is very important for everyone in not only keeping your teeth healthy but also in maintaining good health. So, it is very important to protect from germs that usually live in your mouth. There are millions of germs that live in your mouth. Brushing using a brush and toothpaste and flossing alone is not enough to maintain oral hygiene.

As the plaque is a very thin film created by bacteria, we are not able to see and remove with the help of brushing. There are some other tools or helpful aids that are used in your mouth to remove or eliminate the plaque and stuck food particles from your mouth. The tools are as follows:

Single or End Tuft Toothbrushes:
These single or end tuft toothbrushes are with one tuft of bristles. These brushes are used in the places where the multi-tufted or normal brushes cannot reach. These toothbrushes are, especially, designed to brush around the bridges, crowns, rotated or displaced teeth. Also, the gum recession that creates the gaps between the teeth that need to be keeping free from the food and plaque.

Inter-Dental Rubber Tip Stimulator:
These are the pointed rubber tips that are fixed to the handle. These are used to toughen up and stimulate the triangular soft gums between your teeth. But it is not used by everyone if you need them, consult dentist before use.

Inter-Dental Brushes:
These brushes are in triangular shape, and look like little bottle brushes. These are used for cleaning in between teeth. These are fixed to the plastic handle which is available in various sizes. Select a brush which is better suits you. This is best suited for the people who have gaps in between their teeth. You just need to push the brush gently for back and forth into the spaces which usually you find between your teeth.

Inter-dental Sticks or Picks:
These are wooden sticks which are designed to cleaning the spaces between your teeth. These can be used at any time or after every meal. Before using this stick you need to soften and moistened the end of the stick in the mouth. Then insert the stick in between your teeth with the fade edge which should be face the gum. Then gently move it in and out of the teeth gap to clean the teeth and to massage your gums.

These sticks are helpful in removing the food that sticks in between your teeth. These sticks are not used where there is no space in between the teeth and forced cleaning this may cause damage of gums or bleeding. Therefore, these are used on if the sufficient place is available in between your teeth.

Pulsating Water or Medicament Spraying Devices:
These are specially designed for the people who have gaps in between their teeth and who have fixed bridges. These irrigating devices provide a pulsating steam or steady stream of water by pressure through a nozzle. These are not used as a substitute for tooth-brushing.

Tongue Cleaners:
Small food particles are left on your tongue after eating and these are not removed by simple brushing. So, use tongue cleaners to remove the bacteria from your tongue. If you don't remove the food particles, they will turn into sulfur gases that lead to bad smelling. So it is necessary to use tongue cleaners. These tongue cleaners come in various sizes which are useful for children as well as adults.

Some other aids are also available that includes polishing agents, that are helpful in polishing and conditioning your teeth while brushing. Anti-tartar agents, this will help in preventing the formation of tartar or calculus. The anti-gingivitis agent, this will help you prevent or control formation buildup of gingivitis and plaque. Mouthwash- this will help you in controlling bad breath, gingivitis, plaque, and calculus or tartar formation.
