Know Various Effects of Smoking on Teens

It is known that many people in the United States are smokers. The number of deaths occurring due to smoking is also increasing yearly. Teens are mostly habituated to smoking. However, they should be educated by parents at home and teachers at educational institutions about the serious health effects of smoking. Here are some effects of tobacco smoking on health of teens.
  • The most immediate effect of smoking on teens is bad breath. They are also associated with certain dental problems such as stained teeth, increased risk for cavities, and so on.
  • Body odors are the other effects seen among smoking teens. Stale smell of cigarettes is observed from hair, clothing, and also from the pores of skin.
  • Even premature aging signs like wrinkles, particularly around lips are seen among smoking teens.
  • Smoking also restricts blood vessels and hence has an effect on skin. There is an adequate flow of oxygen in the skin and this makes the skin to become pale or yellow. Some studies also reveal that smoking increases the risk of psoriasis.
  • Apart from the non-respiratory health effects, smoking is mostly prone to cause respiratory side effects. It is even found that the teenagers who smoke have smaller lungs than non-smoking teens. This can result in a lower level of lung function. Therefore, smoking teenagers are mostly found with shortness of breath and persistent coughing. There is an increased risk of many respiratory ailments such as colds, flu, bronchitis, pneumonia, and so on among smoking teenagers. Smoking at an early age also rises the risk of lung cancer.
  • There are even chances that teens get affected with heart diseases and strokes because of frequent smoking.
  • Apart from these, there are even emotional or psychological complaints seen among teens who are habituated to smoking.

It is therefore suggested that parents should detect the smoking habits of kids at an earlier stage and prevent them from getting habituated. Otherwise, it may even lead to their death.
