Different Types of Climate Controlled Storage Units

There are generally three different types of climate controlled storage units. They are temperature controlled, humidity controlled, and combination of both. These units have better isolation and hence they are less sensitive to dust.

In Temperature controlled units, the temperature is generally maintained at 50-75 degrees. This facilitates to keep moths and insects distant from items stored. This type of storing environment is very much suitable for storing furs, and expensive furniture.

In Humidity controlled unit, humidity level is generally maintained at 55 RH (Relative Humidity) or less, because at this level mold and mildew growth is restricted. The most common items that can be stored in humidity controlled unit are paper products like files, important documents, etc, which are sensitive to mold and mildew, electronics, like computers and computer parts which are sensitive to rust and dust, musical instruments with wooden and metal parts like pianos which are sensitive to rust and dust and contributes to corrosion. All types of mattresses which are sensitive to mold, home furniture like antiques which are sensitive to corrosion, rugs and carpets which are sensitive to mold can be stored. Bikes, tools, refrigerators, freezers and objects made of iron which are sensitive to rust, and furs which are sensitive to thickening of leather due to oil loss caused due to excessive heat and humidity, and also due to damage caused by moths and insects can also be stored.

The Humidity and temperature controlled units is a combination of both and it is very expensive.

Different Methods Of Self Storage Security

Self storage security is very important factor when renting self storage space. Every self storage facilities need to have a self storage security plan in place. Self storage security can range from basic security protection to high end total security of storage space. It depends on the value of the items that are stored.

Check these things before storing your valuables in storage unit:
  • There should be general security alarms in each storage unit that is supervised.
  • Fire and smoke alarm systems should be present which can control accidental fires from spreading.
  • There should be controlled 24 hour access systems that tracks customers and visitors as they enter and leave the place.
  • Key code or swipe card access should be provided for storage unit to track individuals accessing each storage unit.
  • There should be Intercom systems that restricts unauthorized access to specific private areas.
  • There should be 24 hour guard service or security guard spot service with complete information.
  • There should be lightning systems which are motion sensitive on the internal & external buildings and corridors.
  • Perimeter fencing or concrete walls should be present to prevent thieves from entering or exiting the place undiscovered.
  • Reinforced storage units provide added security against redundant breaking.
  • There should be sole key holder policy to make sure that there is only one person with a key to storage space.
