Types of Communication Skills

Understanding the various types of communication skills forms a vital skill for people who are in to professional role. It forms the key skill for business owners, managers and for working employees too. Interacting with people around is the major portion to be done and having necessary skills and capability in interacting with others forms an essential part. Following mentioned are few types of communication skills:

Interpersonal communication
It is a form of face to face communication taking place among two persons or a group of people through gestures and words. Building up relationships with others by the ability of good communication consisting different types such as nonverbal, verbal and by physical actions that people generally use while communicating with each other.

Interpersonal communication consists of :
Verbal communication
  • In verbal or oral communication words are sued to communicate a particular message.
  • Listening is as important as speaking in this type of communication for being successful.
  • It is widely applicable to situations usually from spontaneous office discussions to public speeches made to group of people.
  • Improving one's verbal communication skills helps to promote better relationships with co workers and also helps in maintaining large network of contacts which may be helpful when required.

Non verbal communication
  • Non verbal communication includes facial expressions, body language, postures and gestures.
  •  It sets the tone of a conversation and impairs the message contained in case if one is not able to control it.
Mass communication
  • This type of communication can be identified with certain tools of mass media which includes social media such as press, films, books, radio and video etc.
  • It generally deals with conveying message with wider range of population.
Intra- personal communication
  • This deals with communication with the spirits and divine in the form of prayers, rituals and rites.
  • It can also arise in various situations and reasons in one's life and can be described with transactional analyze.
Written communication
  • It is an essential form for communicating useful and complicated information, which usually includes statistics and other data which makes people difficult to communicate through speech.
  • In this type of communication the information can be recorded for referring it in the future.
  • This communication must be shortened and clear for communicating information effectively.
By improving your verbal, written, non verbal, intra-personal communication skills you can be more successful in various areas you are working in. either in managing others or working as a part of a team, the ability to communicate can improve relations effectively and helps to work together efficiently.
